Siemens awarded for 10 new HSTs

Siemens was awarded the tender for 10 new high speed trains.

The 10-HST-set tender was held on 30th of January 2017. Winner is announced today as Siemens. Siemens’ offer was EUR 349 mn. Tender includes 10 HST sets, simulator, maintanance of sets and spare parts.

TCDD was invited 5 companies for tender, and 3 of them, CAF, Siemens and Alstom gave offers. Best offer was from CAF (€ 273 mn) with Oaris sets. Siemens’ offer was € 349 mn with Velaro TR sets.

Deliveries are expeted to be completed in 15 months and sets will start commerical service in 2 years.

TCDD can hardly meet the demand for high speed trains with its limited fleet. If the new line, Ankara-Sivas, will be opened at the end of 2018 as planned, this insufficient fleet will be a bigger problem.

  1. Dear Onur, you write that the new high speed line Ankara-Sivas is planned to be completed by the end of 2018 and I saw this is also what tcdd.gov.tr writes. Do you know if the current progress they are making will allow for that date to be kept?

  2. Dear Mr. Uysal,

I am a bit curious about this news.
There is no official statement concerning this order, or at least I am not able to find.
(even only one another rail news website talking about this)
You may help me out, from which source you have this information ?

    Thank you in advance
