Trains from Europe to stop at Edirne for one week

TCDD Tasimacilik published today a traffic restriction for trains from Europe.

According to the announcement, only the trains arriving at Kapikule or Edirne will be accepted at Kapikule during 1-6 April due to engineering works of TCDD on infrastructure between Edirne and Tayyakadin.

The announcement says the trains from Europe with destination further Edirne will not be accepted starting from 1st of April (included) until 6th of April (included). During this period, only trains to Kapikule and Edirne will be accepted.

During 1-6 April, no trains will depart from Halkali or Cerkezkoy to Europe either.

Around 50 freight trains to/from Europe are using this route every week. Transhipment of loads of all these trains to trucks at Kapikule or Edirne would not be possible. Thus operators are working on shifting some trains out of this period and rest to be handled at Edirne.

There’s only one passanger train using this section, Halkali-Kapikule train. There’s no official announcement about it. Train will either be suspended or operate on a shorter route.

  1. I thought the passenger train from Halkali to Europe is suspended anyway since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic?

  2. Is there any chance for the night train Halkali – Sofia to return soon?
