Ruined medieval Armenian city located at Kars province.
Ani was the capital of the Bagratid Armenian kingdom between 961 and 1045. The religious buildings, palaces and fortifications of Ani were amongst the most technically and artistically advanced structures in the world. The archaeological site of Ani was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 15, 2016 (see more at Wikipedia).

Ruins are situated at 46 km east of Kars, next to Armenian border. Closest train station is Kars train station.
There’s no regular public transport service to there from Kars. The options are rent a car, agree with a minibus together with other travelers or talk with a tour company at Kars. It’s 46 km away and will take about 1 hour.
