# 4 – Istanbul – Belgrade train
This train started this summer and promises amazing scenery.
You can have a good sleep on Istanbul-Sofia section and enjoy the scenery during day between Sofia and Belgrade.
Due to delays, this train has suspended after a couple of months. It’s still possible to travel on this route by using two separate trains as Istanbul-Sofia and Sofia-Belgrade.

Train is a couchette wagon moving with Sofia Express between Istanbul and Sofia. At Sofia, it’s attached to Sofia-Belgrade train.
There are only couchette cars in this train with 4 seats/beds. This may be an advantage for couples, but surely an advantage for making new friends.
There’s no restaurant car, you need to be prepared for this in advance.
Another disadvantage is that train is running only during summer.
The travel lasts almost one day, which makes it possible to see beautiful nature of Balkan region while travelling.
Istanbul train station (Halkali) is far away from city center, but there’s a connected bus service. Train station as at center in Belgrade.

Excellent post. I love sleeper train travel and in the past often made the journey between Aleppo and Istanbul
wish we could do it soon
I would also suggest the routes serving Adana from Ankara and the (former? I hope it runs again!) one from Haydarpasa too: the section down from Ülükisla to Yenice especially is stupendous!
There’s only Toros Express on that route by now, between Adana and Kayseri.
