# 5 – Ankara – Tatvan train (Vangolu Express)
This train is running between Ankara and Van Lake and is very popular in Turkey.
It’s possible to reach to Akdamar Island with bus from Tatvan.
It’s also possible to travel to Van, which becomes quite popular especially among tourists from Iran.

Van Golü Express has also sleepers, couchettes and restaurant car.
Tatvan is close to Akhdamar island and church which is an important touristic destination in this region. However the town has very limited accommodation and transport options.
Train departs only 2 times a week, on Tuesday and Sunday from Ankara, on Tuesday and Thursday from Tatvan.

Excellent post. I love sleeper train travel and in the past often made the journey between Aleppo and Istanbul
wish we could do it soon
I would also suggest the routes serving Adana from Ankara and the (former? I hope it runs again!) one from Haydarpasa too: the section down from Ülükisla to Yenice especially is stupendous!
There’s only Toros Express on that route by now, between Adana and Kayseri.
