Ridership on rail over 600 mn in Istanbul


Ridership in metro, tram and cable car in Istanbul increases by 17% in 2015, compared with previous year.

With Marmaray passengers, the ridership on all rail systems exceeds 600 mn.

As published by Istanbul Ulasim, total number of passengers used rail systems operated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 2015 is almost 559 mn.

That means a daily ridership of 1.5 mn. The busiest line is also the oldest metro line of Istanbul: M1 (Yenikapi-Ataturk Airport). Ridership in this lines was over 143 mn. Other busy lines were Yenikapı-Hacıosman metro (136 million) and Kabataş-Bağcılar tram (119 million) oldu. Passengers of Marmaray exceeded 60 million in 2015.

With Marmaray, the daily ridership of rail systems reach to 1.7 mn. This means 16% share in total number of passengers using public transport systems in Istanbul, which is 10.4 mn:
