The request of OTV (special consumption tax) exception for rail is not accepted.
The 7th general meeting of Railway Transportation Association (DTD) was held on Saturday. The main discussion of the meeting was OTV exception which is the biggest cost item in rail freight. It’s explained that Ministry of Transport is not in favor of OTV exception for rail. Instead, ministry focused on completing electrification on whole rail network.
OTV exception would decrease the rail freight costs by %15-20. Electrification, on the other hand, will decrease the costs by min 25%. Currently, about 30% of the conventional network in Turkey is electrified. On another 30% of the network, electrification works continue.
