Baku-Ankara overnight train is announced to start in 3rd quarter of 2019.
Since the opening of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, travellers have been looking forward to start of Baku Ankara train. It was announced to start by the end of 2018, but train sets have not been delivered until today. Now Azerbaijan Railways announced that the train will start service in 3rd quarter of 2019.
As reported by Azernews, first set of 10 wagons to be used on this line will be delivered by Stadler in early 2019.
It’s also mentioned in Azernews that 2nd set will be delivered in 2nd phase. ın 2014, it was announced that Stadler was awarded for 3 sets. There’s no information about 3rd set in the statement.
Each set of Baku train has 257 berths, including 1st class compartments with 2 berth + WC/shower, comfort class with 2 connected cabins for families and economy class with 4 berths. Set also has one dining car.
Wagons have a special technology which enables running both on wide gauge of Azerbaijan and Georgia and standard gauge of Turkey.
