Kardemir signed the contract for rail wheels with TCDD Tasimacilik.

Kardemir, one of the leading steel producers of Turkey, had completed the new investment for production of rail wheels and won the tender for 1600 monobloc wheels of TCDD Tasimacilik.

Rail wheel is one of the the biggest expenses in railway transportation. About 10-15 thousands of wheels are purchased every year in Turkey, all imported from foreign countries. The amount of imported wheels had reached to USD 20 mn last year.

Kardemir aims to produce all types of rail wheels (freight wagons, locos, passenger coaches and light rail vehicles) with a annual production capacity of 200k wheels. Thus the company targets foreign markets and works on the TSI certification.

Kardemir is the only rail producer in Turkey. Since the start of rail production in 2007, the company has produced 12k km of rail to be used in Turkey.
