Full signalization in Central Anatolia
Several steps have been taken about signalization in this region where the freight traffic is quite busy.
Zonguldak-Irmak railway line

Zonguldak-Irmak railway line has important freight traffic especially due to Kardemir (the steel company) and passenger trains. ETCS Level1 is installed. The renewal of the line and signalization works were also supported by IPA funds.
Samsun-Kalin railway line

Samsun-Kalin railway line was renewed and opened last year after having kept closed for almost 5 years. The signalized line now allows higher speed and has higher capacity. Freight traffic restarted again. Passenger services have not started yet due to Covid-19.

Ankara-Kayseri-Sivas-Malatya-Iskenderun railway lines

Ankara-Kayseri-Sivas and Sivas-Malatya-Iskenderun railway lines are signalized. These lines have the busiest freight traffic of Turkey. All passenger train services departing from Ankara towards east partially use these sections including the most popular train service, Dogu Express.
Konya-Karaman-Ulukisla railway line

ETCS Level1 is installed on Konya-Karaman line, test runs have started. High speed trains are expected to arrive at Karaman this summer. The engineering works continue on Karaman-Ulukisla railway. Whene completed, this section will also have ETCS Level1.
Kayseri-Ulukisla-Yenice railway line

ETCS Level1 system is already installed on Kayseri-Ulukisla railway line, which is quite busy due to container trains between Kayseri and Mersin. The signalization works continue between Ulukisla and Yenice.
What is CTC?
Centralized train control. Orders and operations are transmitted by signals. Drivers follow the confirmation to use the track via traffic lights. All operation is directed and followed via traffic management center.
What is ETCS Level1?
European train control system. The system where trains and tracks communicate with each other, speed limits can be determined specific to trains and drivers can get notices both via equipments in rolling stock and along track.
