First train in eastward direction to Azerbaijan via Baku-Tblisi-Kars departed today.
The first train departed today from Mersin to Baku using the recently commissioned Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. The train is expected to arrive Baku in 80 hours. Train has 32 containers carrying agricultural products and construction materials.
Mr Veysi Kurt, the general manager of TCDD Tasimacilik told in ceremony at Mersin that the target transit times are 80 hours for Baku, 100 hours for Turkmenbashi and 180 hours for Astana.
The BTK railway was commissioned at the end of October 2017. First train on this stretch was grain train from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan. The transit time between Baku-Mersin was about 3 days. The train had completed the 1300-km-long Kars-Mersin stretch at a record time of 1.5 days.
