Freight trains in Marmaray tunnel

Currently the only solution for trains to cross between Asia and Europe is the Derince-Tekirdag rail ferry. Due to long delays and high cost, the not many trains use the ferry.

As Marmaray project is completed, some of the freight trains will be allowed to pass through Marmaray tunnel. Thus trains will run between two continents after midnight when the suburban trains do not work. Though the tunnel tariff is not announced yet, it’s expected to be less than ferry.
