Freight trains have started to pass Bosphorus only via Marmaray.
Derince-Tekirdag ferry that started in 2013 carrying trains between Europe and Asia, has ended its service. Marmaray is now the only option for trains crossing between Eurepan and Asian side of Turkey.
As freight trains start using Marmaray, the service will now be faster, more reliable with no delays or suspension due to weather conditions. The operating costs will drop as well.
On the other hand, dangerous and oversize goods are not allowed at Marmaray tunnel. Thus, last week a statement was sent to European operators that this kind of goods could be accepted only at European side.
The most possible solution for these goods will be the ferry service between Haydarpasa and Sirkeci, which used to give service for crossing of trains between two sides for many years. However, this solution has to wait for the completion of renewal and archeological works.
End of ferry service may cause suspension of Bandirma-Tekirdag ferry service as well, where same vessel was planned to be used.

Do you know if the Bandirma-Tekirdag ferry was suspended? With the options now available via Marmaray, I expect it is not running.
Yes, it’s not running anymore. Only Marmaray.
