Last status of metro and tram projects of Turkey


Gayrettepe-İstanbul Havalimanı-Halkalı metro

This project has the most priority of Ministry of Transport getting the biggest share from funds. 71% of project is completed. First rail car was put on rail in September.

In April 2021, Kağıthane-Airport service is planned to start. In September, the other part, Gayrettepe-Kağıthane will open, connecting metro line to downtown of Istanbul.

Second phase of this project, Airport-Halkalı metro line is expected to open in 2022.

Tavşantepe-Sabiha Gökçen metro extension

This project is the extension of Kadıköy-Tavşantepe metro line to Sabiha Gökçen airport. Construction works were criticized to be so slow. Tunnel works were completed by the end of 2019. A landslide happened in February 2020. Laying of rails started in Summer 2020. Ministry plans to open this line by the end of 2021.

Başakşehir-Kayaşahir metro

This metro project was started by Istanbul Municipality without any credit agreement in 2017 and continued very slowly. As of end of 2019, 9% was completed. In May 2020, Ministry took over the project and aims to complete the line within 18 months.

Kirazlı-Halkalı metro

45% of the works are completed, but construction works continue very slow.
