19 Mayis University in Samsun succeeded in producing pantograph graphite project.
The project started four years ago, and now succeeded in producing a better quality with a lower cost. This new material will be ready for production in 2 years.
Pantograph graphite is the contact part of pantograph to electric wires, and is the most important operating expense of pantograph which is currently being imported to Turkey.
The project started to solve a problem faced in Samsun tram, and now is ready to be used as filling material to extend the product life of graphite.
The project will be finalized in two years. By then, it’s planned to produce the pantograph graphite completely in Turkey.
Turkey is spending around € 400k every year for 700 metro/tram sets and 200 electric locos and EMUs.
