Torbali, where all passenger trains from Izmir to south is passing by, may be hub in the near future.
TCDD’s new train service, running between Odemis and Torbali started two weeks ago. This train is an alternative service to Izmir-Odemis train, where Izmir suburban trains should be used between Torbali and Izmir. This may the first step of rerouting passenger services in that area, where some of regional trains start to depart from Torbali, instead of Izmir city center.
This new connected service caused many complaints from passengers due to interchange and delay time at Torbali.
On the other hand, TCDD may give more frequent service to far suburbans (Tire, Odemis, Soke) with existing rolling stock and staff. Another advantage would be less diesel services on Torbali-Basmane section.
This hub system may also enable more frequent suburban service. Suburban trains currently depart every 10 minutes in peak hours. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality declared its desire to run trains more frequently both in metro and suburban trains (every 2 minutes).
The regional trains departing from Izmir (Basmane) and passing through Torbali are as follows:
- Izmir (Basmane) – Denizli Train
- Izmir (Basmane) – Nazilli Train
- Izmir (Basmane) – Odemis Train
- Izmir (Basmane) – Soke Train
- Izmir (Basmane) – Tire Train
