The tariff, which once helped enterance of many private companies into railway transport market, is changing.

TCDD has started to decrase the discount rate which is applied to transportation fares when done with the private wagons.

The wagon owners who made contracts with TCDD used to get 45% discount until last year. Beginning with the renewals and new contracts, TCDD is now offering less discount for the private wagons. And since the contracts are signed for one year, further decrease won’t be suprising in coming years.

TCDD Tasimacilik introduced new tariff

45% discount was giving chance to owners giving better offers than TCDD if wagons are organized and maintained efficiently. This discount was for promoting private companies, and now TCDD is expected to compete in liberalized market. Thus, TCDD Tasimacilik is reconsidering this discount.

Private wagon discount is 20% in international transports. Since private wagons are generally special wagons which cannot be find easily, owners don’t compete directly with operators.

However, the private wagons in Turkey can easily be replaced with TCDD Tasimacilik wagons. Furthermore, TCDD started renting its wagons on daily basis.

“Rent a rolling stock” era started

These two developments will surely force recalculation about private wagon ownership.
