How to get to new airport of Istanbul?

Istanbul’s new airport will start service on 29th of October.

The bus services of Havaist will start fully in Jan 2019. IETT operates buses from Ataturk Airport, Halkali and Mecidiyekoy (timetables). Havaist started bus services from 5 Taksim/Besiktas, Yenikapi/Bakirkoy, Kozyatagi, Tuyap and Bayrampasa main bus station (timetables).

The new airport of Istanbul will be commissioned and start commercial service on 29th of October, 2018. As of that day, all flight from Yesilkoy Ataturk Airport will start departing from new airport.

The new airport is 50 km away from Old City (Sirkeci) and 65 km from Kadikoy (Asian side). Thus, various public transport options are either under construction or planned.

Currently, 2 metro connections to new airport are under construction. First is Mecidiyekoy-Kemerburgaz-Gokturk-3rd Airport metro. The metro line is expected to be ready by the end of 2019.

The other metro line to new airport is Halkali-3rd Airport metro, which will start from the main Marmaray station on west. The target commission date for this metro is the end of 2020.

The new airport will start service in 2 months. The public transport to new airport will be only by bus until metro lines are commissioned. Buses will depart from 19 points in Istanbul. Here below is the map of departure points:

  1. We will arrive to Istanbul on the first day of November, and after 12 hours the flight will continue. How can you best get into the city center from the new airport?
