Ulusoy’s second intermodal trailer train from Germany had arrived to Turkey in 5 days. Departure was on Saturday from Cologne Terminal. Train arrived to Kapikule on Wednesday, and to Cerkezkoy on Thursday.
As stated by Mr Sevgin Mutlu, Road Deputy Manager, trailers had unloaded from wagons at Cerkezkoy Terminal on Thursday, and they all reached to the customs on the same day. He told that 25 trailers had been transported in second train. “The first train had also arrived to Kapikule in 4 days, but faced with a customs problem” said Mr Mutlu, and continued as follows: “The problem was about the IT system, since it’s the first time trailers arrived to Kapikule on train. By the efforts of customs, system problem solved, and second train had arrived to Cerkezkoy in 5 days.”
Intermodal trailer trains has become popular in Turkey-Europe traffic, and several trains depart from Trieste connected with Roro vessels from Turkey. Ulusoy’s train is the first to depart and arrive to Turkey directly.
In 2006, a project was held by railway operators to carry trucks between Turkey and Europe, but not lived long due to commercial and operational problems.
