Izmir tram sets on test

Tests of Izmir’s first three tram sets have started.

Production of Hyundai Rotem tram sets, to be used on two tram lines of Izmir under construction, have been completed at Eurotem plant in Adapazari. These first three sets will be delivered to Izmir right after tests are completed.

Hyundai Rotem used car bodies produced in Turkey for the first time in rail cars.  5-pieces car body had been sent last year in South Korea and completed all tests successfully. Livery, seat and air conditions are also produced in Turkey for this new tram.

Local production in Izmir tram is announced to reach to 85%. The highest rate was 60% until now (Durmazlar’s rail cars for Bursa). In order to reach to 85%, at least half of the critical systems (traction, brake, coupling, door, batery, wheel and control system) must be supplied from Turkey.

Each tram set is 32-mt-long and have a capacity of 285 passengers.

In addition to these 3 sets, 12 more are planned to be delivered within this year. Remaning 23 sets will be delivered early next year.

One of two new Izmir tram lines, Karsiyaka line is planned to be commissioned at the end of this year.
