Uskudar-Cekmekoy metro line is the first driverless metro in Istanbul, but not the last one.
Driverless metros become more and more popular in the world. Flexibility, high capacity usage and energy saving are main reasons to choose driverless metro. Istanbul will also follow this trend.
Here are the driverless metro lines in operation or under construction in Istanbul:
Uskudar-Umraniye-Cekmekoy metro (M5)
This is the first driverless metro of Istanbul and Turkey. First phase, Uskudar-Yamanevler was commissioned in late 2017, and second phase last year.
Uskudar-Cekmeköy metro has a very high capacity among all driverless metro lines, 1st in Europe, 3rd in the world.
Uskudar-Umraniye-Cekmekoy metro
The extension line of this metro, Cekmekoy-Sultanbeyli will also be driverless.
Bostanci-Dudullu metro (M8)
Tunnel works are completed and laying of rails has started in this project. This will most probably the second driverless metro of Istanbul. Bostanci-Dudullu metro will connect two metro lines of Asian side to Marmaray and HSTs.
Kabatas-Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey metro (M7)
Kabatas-Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey metro line will be the first driverless metro of European side of Istanbul. Mecidiyekoy-Tekstilkent section is expected to be completed this year.
This line is expected to be the busiest line of Istanbul connecting important metro, metrobus, ferry and tram services.
Kabatas-Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey metro
There’s an extension project of this line, Mahmutbey-Esenyurt, where the tender was opened, and then suspended. That line will also be driverless.
Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport-Halkali metro (M11)
This metro line connecting city center to new airport of Istanbul will be driverless.
The new airport, Istanbul Airport, was commissioned last year. Till mid 2019, all flight currently to/from Ataturk Airport, are planned to shift to new airport. Thus, M11 construction works are going very fast.
Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport metro
The second phase of this metro line which will connect airport to Halkali (Marmaray suburban trains and HSTs) will also be driverless.
Yenikapi-Airport/Kirazli-Halkali metro (M1)
Istanbul’s first metro, Yenikapi-Atatürk Airport/Kirazli metro will be renewed as driverless. The whole system will be developed in Turkey.
There’s an extension line under construction which will connect Kirazli to Halkali. This line will also be driverless and will use the new system as well.
Goztepe-Atasehir-Umraniye metro (M12)
Goztepe-Atasehir-Umraniye will be the third driverless metro line of Asian side of Istanbul. The construction works started last year. But no works observed for a long time, the projects seems postponed.

Ciao Vital.. Unfortunately, Transasia Express has not started. It was stated in opening of Tabriz-Van that it would soon start, but has not yet. Tabriz-Van is running.. You can combine with Vangolu Express until Ankara, with some time to spend at Van while waiting train.
